Type: Digital Animations
Figure Zoom-Grounds is an ongoing collection of free HD Videos specifically designed as Zoom Virtual Backgrounds.
Figure-Ground relationships have long been drawn to reveal the space existing between things, a mediating territory where ideas of publicness are both generated and tested.
While a patchwork of digital Zoom-rooms is now our primary space of social engagement, we think of Virtual Backgrounds as a site of negotiation between our public and private selves.
Here image-based algorithms produce unstable profiles filtering likely-to-be human figures from their surrounding. Unlike many Nolli-plans, this becomes an active threshold.
As a reminder of the complex entanglements of our physical and digital lives, it is from these gaps that we can begin to occupy the seamlessly shifting definition of publicness.
